Catholic Churches
The three locations we are going to cover are:
- Basilica Of The Sacred Heart Of Jesus
- The Catholic Shrine Of The Immaculate Conception
- Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church
Each of these churches has a little bit different flavor and expression. Along with times and events, this gives you ample opportunity to find one that suits what you are looking for! Lets dive into the first location we will be reviewing.
Basilica Of The Sacred Heart Of Jesus
The first catholic church on our list to visit near Atlanta is going to be the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
This church can be found at: 353 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
A neat thing about this church is that it has nearly a 5 star rating out of 400 Google reviews! Not that reviews really matter for a church, but it does mean something when the community supports an establishment so much like this one.
This location has awesome history to go along with it given that it has been around since 1880! Its cornerstone was laid November 21, 1897 and it was dedicated at May 1, 1898!
This location has a ton of chances to join or visit that can all be found on its calendar here. In addition, this church has a strong and vibrant Spanish community lending to even more diversity and inclusion. There are Spanish dedications, services and more!
If you are interesting in attending the Basilica then make sure to check out their mass schedule here to find out when to visit!
The Catholic Shrine Of The Immaculate Conception
Our second catholic church we are going to take a look at is called The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception!
This church can be found at: 48 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30303
This location is pretty new age savvy offering things like online mass, weddings, all kinds of outreach and a strong music group!
Like the last church we mentioned, this one also has a strong rating from the community with a 4.7+ star rating over almost 250 reviews. Again, we do not want to measure a church by its ratings, but it doesn’t hurt to see what the community thinks about this establishment as a whole.
This location has its hands strongly in the community being apart of organizations and programs like:
- Giving Tree
- Habitat for Humanity
- Haiti Outreach
- Sandwich/Snack Ministry
- Pride Outreach
- St. Francis Table
- and so much more!
If you are interested in this location then you can find their mass schedule here along with tons of events and chances to get plugged in!
Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church
The final church we will cover is called Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church!
This location can be found at: 25 Boulevard N.E., Atlanta, Ga 30312
This church is pretty cool in that they claim they are the “Mother Church of African American Catholics in the Archdiocese of Atlanta”.
Why is this so?
Simply because this church was founded with money provided by St. Katharine Drexel. It was as a mission to African American and Native Americans in 1912 to spread Catholicism.
While all churches should welcome all races and cultures, this church really lives up to that narrative. In addition, they say that they are an expressive congregation. This mean they are not afraid of a little shouting and hollering!
Finally, they refer to their mass as the “Lourdes Experience”. This is because you’ll find an upbeat service featuring a variety of music and liturgy.
If you are interested in attending a service here for the Lourdes Experience, then find their mass schedule here to get plugged in!
